Shiloh - Can you really be a regular guy and lead a normal, low-key life when you've proven yourself a national hero?

David Shepherd hopes so, and he is doing his best to prove it -- at least in the first few weeks since he stood down a Goliath tank and fostered peace between the long-warring Gilboa and Gath.

Shepherd, a native of Port Prosperity, has moved to Shiloh, insisting that it's his first time in the capital. "I missed the eighth grade class trip," Shepherd said.

He seemed slightly taken aback on Friday when he first addressed the country as the Military Liaison to the Press Corps. But in press briefings since, the now promoted Captain Shepherd seems to be settling in to life off the battlefield.

With his image in newspapers around the country, David Shepherd has become a household name. But Shepherd remains modest in the face of his rising celebrity: "I'm no star. I just did what I had to for our country. For peace.

What is the butterfly in the Advertisement for the show mean?
I'm not really sure what the butterfly is all about. Is it a sort of statement about the butterfly effect being the cause for David to be rocketed to the top? Why would they incorperate a butterfly into their flag? Butterflies aren't fearce!

Anyway, that preview didn't show much of a plot. That Goliath tank didn't look all that big and awful but we'll see. They still don't have a premiere date, not even a vague month like "January, 2009". I hope that changes soon. NBC is really hurting at the moment so I'm confident they'll launch this one soon to replace the shows they've canceled. They shouldn't be in a position to set this show up to fail hopefully.

soap-opera: David in 1st & 2nd Samuel

A new TV show called Kings, on NBC, was teased with a mysterious commercial last night during prime time. I just went to the website www.kings2009.com to check it out. There is a page here, too. Yes, veery interesting.

It looks like many other prime time soap operas (intrigue, power struggles, sex) but this one is set in the modern day "mythical" Royal Kingdom of Gilboa. The kingdom is at war, and young David Shepherd rises in the military to become a new national hero - one who gives hope to the people. It looks like a really cool show. But I'm also a bit nervous about it. Will it be anything close to accurate to the biblical story, or will people become even more misinformed about the Bible? I think it will be an excellent opportunity for a weekly small-group or class to talk about. No info is on the site about when the show will premier.

What do you make of the fact that it paralells the story of King David in the Bible? Is NBC really doing a whole series based on a biblical character? Will they actually tell his story even close to accurately? There is certainly a lot of-behavior in David's biography. Remember Goliath? Remember Bathsheba? They are referenced on the web site. It looks like they have a Jonathan, too. (You can read about David in 1st & 2nd Samuel) I hope NBC will do a good job, and will mostly paralell the biblical story. Would it be a good or a bad thing if major networks start telling Bible stories in prime time? What do you think?
